The ALS Walk for Research is an annual event uniting our community to support ALS research at the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI). The History of
ALS TDI
In 1999, after his brother Stephen had been diagnosed with ALS at age 29, Jamie Heywood founded ALS TDI – the world's first nonprofit biotech company – in the basement of his family's Newton, MA home to bring effective treatments to people living with this disease.
Today, ALS TDI is the world's largest drug discovery lab focused solely on ending ALS. And although Stephen has since passed, the same sense of hope and family drives every decision made in our lab.

The ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI) is the first ever nonprofit biotech and the largest drug discovery lab in the world focused solely on ALS. Based in Watertown, MA, ALS TDI has a team of dedicated researchers who are working 24/7 to invent and discover effective treatments for everyone with ALS.
As a nonprofit biotech, ALS TDI operates without regard to profit or politics, and they are supported by a global community united in ending ALS. They spend 87 cents of every dollar raised on finding effective treatments and cures for ALS.
